Joseph G. Manupella was one of a kind. And although you can imagine that every community has one…he was ours. Joe lived and breathed the Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club. He became a member in 1937 and he never left. From every brick, to every beam, he was there from the beginning when it was just a vision, to the years spent filling the walls up with stories of changed lives and mended souls.
Joe was born and raised in the ‘Burgh. A soldier, a navy seal, a restaurant owner, a politician, a truant officer, an Executive Director, a mentor, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a friend. “No Sweat Joe” rallied the community for over 30 years to build a safe place for children. Under his leadership, he gave children a chance in life when they may not have gotten the support elsewhere. He's proven that all sometimes all a kid needs is just one person to believe in them to change their life. Moreso than that, he's inspired thousands of people, young and old, to never give up on a kid.
So please join us for the Joseph G. Memorial Run and help us honor the sphere of this man's influence in the best way we know how - rallying the community in honor to support the future of it.
